If you’re using social media to market your listings, connect with new clients, or even for personal use, you might have heard about some recent changes. Platforms such as Youtube and TikTok, which are video sharing sites, are monopolizing the game and the attention of viewers. Instagram wants some of that attention back and they’re making moves in 2021 to get it.
Instagram’s CEO, Adam Mosseri, is determined to take the photo-sharing platform to a new level. In his recent video posted to Twitter (@mosseri), Mosseri revealed the four features that are core to the app’s continued development. The one that’s of biggest importance to us as marketers is that Instagram is going all-in on video content. We’ve all known and loved Instagram since 2010 and have seen it shift over the years, but it has always been the spot for perfectly curated photo feeds. Mosseri acknowledges that the majority of users turn to Instagram for entertainment and photos alone aren’t fulfilling those needs.
Mosseri’s intentions with the changes in the app seem to be about genuine connection between users, advocating for creators, and supporting online business- while keeping us all engaged. In order to allow Instagram to be used to its fullest potential and get the benefits for brands and businesses that we’re looking for, video is the new king.
In his Twitter post he mentioned some ways that the app is toying around with mobile-friendly video and how they’re introducing new types of content to users. He’s also made several more statements via Twitter to let his audience know that Instagram isn’t abandoning photos or the professionals behind them. The most important takeaway for those of us who use Instagram for marketing our business, is that adaptation is key. Looking ahead at new ways to connect with our customers is about responding to their needs, and we can’t do that without captivating their attention.
We’ve talked about this a few times before, as we’ve seen video trends escalating in real estate. We can’t predict the future, but what we can say for certain is that ignoring the use of video in your marketing will hinder you from reaching your business goals.
